ISIC Blog ImageToday, I want to talk about a great money-saving opportunity. If you plan on traveling often within the next year and are a full-time student that is above the age of 13, this card is for you! About a year ago, I ran across a card called the ISIC (International Student Identity Card) on STA Travel. The best thing is that this is NOT a credit card, just a way to get tons of great discounts all around the world. The card costs 25 USD and is good for one year, here is what it includes:

  • It comes with thousands of perks and discounts, including over 125,000 in the United States
  • Get International recognition of your full-time student status
  • Fly for less with access to exclusive flight prices with STA Travel
  • Travel more with discounts on train tickets and bus passes
  • Get help on the go with a 24-hour Help Line emergency service
  • Get exclusive offers and hotels & hostels
  • Cover yourself with basic sickness and accident travel insurance for international trips

If you go on the ISIC.org website, they have a benefit search engine that lists a ton of great discounts on everything from lonely planet travel guides to pubcrawls in L.A. The discounts aren’t limited to just travel either, so you can get a wide array of savings.

What I love the most about the card is that they give you basic travel insurance for a one time fee. That is huge! Granted, it’s not going to be the best insurance possible, but it’s better than nothing, and it’s enough to take your mind off of worrying about what you will do if something bad happens.

The only caution I have about cards (even ones as good as this), is that before you buy it, make sure you will be using it often to make sure it pays for itself. There is nothing I hate more than buying a product that I never end up using.

In order to get this card here is what you need:

  • A digital photo to put on the I.D.
  • A scanned copy for proof that you are a full-time student.
  • A scanned copy for proof of your identity.

There is also an option to get your card locally and not online. However, not everyone is going to be close to a station. You can search your location here at the ISIC.org website to see if there is one by you.

The point of the card is that student I.D.’s are not always recognized around the world, so as an example, if you go into Europe as an American, this card will guarantee that you get discounts in the local museums and other attractions, while not risking getting your U.S. student I.D. card denied.

The price of this card will easily pay for itself multiple times over when you use it often. The only drawback of this card is that it expires after 12 months from the activation date. I still think that is a pretty small drawback in the long run and it’s well worth the investment.

Here is the link to the card on STA Travel!

There are also a few other cards that are offered by STA Travel that share similar benefits.

Their “ISIC Explorer” card has the same benefits as the last one, but offers a better insurance package. This card however is 199 USD, but is still a great value since the insurance ends up only being 0.55 USD per day over the year-long period. Sadly, this card is only for students as well.

The next card they offer is the “ISIC Youth” card for anyone who is under the age of 26. If you are not yet in school or are already graduated, this is the best option for you. Sadly, it doesn’t come with as many perks as the other cards, but still has a good amount of value to it for 25 USD:

  • It comes with thousands of perks and discounts, including over 125,000 in the United States
  • Fly for less with access to exclusive flight prices with STA Travel
  • Get help on the go with a 24-hour Help Line emergency service
  • Get exclusive offers and hotels & hostels
  • Cover yourself with basic sickness and accident travel insurance for international trips

The last card is built for teachers and is called the “ITIC Teacher” card. This card is for anyone who is either a full-time teacher or a professor. For 25 USD you get:

  • It comes with thousands of perks and discounts, including over 125,000 in the United States
  • It provides international recognition of your full-time teacher status
  • Get help on the go with a 24-hour Help Line emergency service
  • Fly for less with exclusive flight prices with STA Travel
  • Cover yourself with basic sickness and accident travel insurance for international trips

As you can see, the benefits are almost identical to the previous card. If you are looking for an easy way to save cash, these are great buys. I’ll be posting and researching more on discount cards in the future.

Thank you so much for your time and for reading this. I really appreciate you!
